Spanning a vast 14-million-acre watershed, the 320-mile-long Clark Fork River has been the lifeblood of western Montana for millennia. It provides water and recreation to millions of residents and visitors, supports agriculture and other industries, and is home to abundant fish and wildlife. But it is deeply scarred and still recovering from a legacy of mining pollution and heavy use. ->

The Clark Fork River - from its headwaters near Butte to its confluence with the Blackfoot River near Missoula - is part of the largest Superfund complex in the country. River and floodplain remediation at this scale and complexity is unprecedented, and has seen its share of successes and challenges since commencing in 2010. The river, and cleanup and restoration efforts, have a long way to go. Community input will be essential to success. ->
